Google Pixel 6a: My Positive First Impressions

It’s been a while since I upgraded my phone and I was in the market for a “new” device. I had been using a Samsung Galaxy Note 8 for many years and while it served me well, it had started to show the signs of its age. I was excited to try out the Google Pixel 6a and I must say, my first impressions of the device have been overwhelmingly positive.

The first thing I noticed about the Pixel 6a was its fast performance. I was expecting as much since it’s a much newer device but I haven’t experienced any lag or stutters. The stock Android operating system is a refreshing change from the TouchWiz interface that I was used to on my Samsung device. The minimalist design of stock Android is a real plus for me and I appreciate the simplicity of the interface, plus it’s a newer version of Android and much more polished overall.

One of the features that I was really looking forward to testing out was the Night Sight. I have to say that I have been thoroughly impressed with the results so far. The pictures I have taken in low light conditions have come out much brighter and clearer than I expected. I’m sure I’ll be able to take an interesting picture soon, but so far I have only tested it with a slightly lighter empty field.

The screen on the Pixel 6a is large and vibrant, making it ideal for browsing the web, watching videos, or playing games. The screen has a high resolution which makes everything look crisp and clear. The colours are accurate and the viewing angles are excellent. I find that at peak brightness the Pixel is not as bright as the Samsung Note 8 – the Note 8’s screen is also bigger but I haven’t really noticed the missing screen real estate.

The design of the Pixel 6a is sleek and stylish. The phone is slim and lightweight, noticeably lighter than the Samsung Note 8. Both devices feel as premium as each other which is another plus for the Pixel since it was half the price. I’ve put it in a Spigen case anyway, though.

In conclusion, my first impressions of the Google Pixel 6a have been overwhelmingly positive. The device is fast and responsive, the stock Android operating system is a refreshing change from my previous phone, and the Night Sight and camera app are impressive. The large and vibrant screen, sleek and stylish design, and durable casing make the Pixel 6a an excellent choice for anyone in the market for a new phone.
